Thank You 2016

Khloe Kardashian summed up 2016 perfectly...  "The new year is a good time to reflect on the baby steps I've taken, and how I've evolved. Not everything is a f--king race — it's the marathon of life! I think it's so important to acknowledge the evolution."  Well said Khloe, and that’s exactly what I want to dedicate my last blog of 2016 to – Evolution.

I opened my new location exactly a year ago December 1 and as many of you know, 2016 has been filled with many ups and downs along the way. Although I am happy I don’t have to relive many of the lows of this year, looking back from where I am today I wouldn’t change anything; I’ve learned so much more for 2016’s life hard lessons. Most of all, I am so grateful for continuing to move forward with my dream and my wonderful amazing clients.

Through Evolution Lash Studio and Spa, I have been blessed to meet such amazing people who brighten my days. They have all taught me so much, gave me honest advice when needed, and most importantly loyal support and encouragement throughout my journey. Truly I appreciate my clients who bring me such positivity and have become dear friends. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart who has believed in me and Evolution Lash Studio and Spa.

Skin Care Myths Clients Should Stop Believing

Despite what some social media sites or beauty blogs share, most skin woes don’t have a magical fix. So how can anyone tell good advice from bad?

The following lists the truths regarding some online remedies for skin care.

1. You don't need sunscreen on a cloudy day.

Even on a cloudy day, UV radiation from the sun reaches the earth's surface. So make sure you use sunscreen everyday and reapply it every two hours as well after swimming or sweating.

2. Natural does not mean safe.

Most natural products are made WITHOUT Parabens, Sulfates, Petrochemicals, Synthetic emulsifiers, Alcohol, Artificial Colors, Mineral Oil and Artificial fragrances. They are also Non-toxic and Chemical Free, you cant go wrong with that!

3. Lemon juice is a great treatment for blackheads.

Lemon juice is more irritating than it is helpful, and it can seriously burn skin when exposed to sunlight.

4. Washing your face multiple times a day may cause dryness.

Ideally you should wash your face twice a day and any additional times as necessary. DON'T FORGET TO MOISTURIZE!

5. Everyone needs a toner.

Toners can only help select people. Over-drying and irritation is a concern for those with dry skin.

6. Cellulite creams firm skin.

The results are inconsistent, minor and temporary, if experienced.

7. The SPF in makeup or moisturizer is enough.

You should look for products that provide broad spectrum coverage with at least 30 SPF. Most tinted moisturizers contain an SPF of 15 or 20. After moisturizing, you should apply a thin layer of SPF before applying your makeup.

8. There are rules about when to start anti-aging products.

The facial aging process is influenced by a combination of genetics, environment and behaviors, as well as how well, in general, someone takes care of her body. To take care of your skin and prevent signs of aging, it’s recommended to use a daily facial sunscreen and maintain a healthy diet.

9. Hand sanitizer can be used to tone down oily skin.

Hand sanitizers contain alcohol as an antiseptic, which doesn’t work against acne. For most people, it also dries out their skin.

10. Chocolate does not cause acne.

While there might be a relationship between diet and acne, it is primarily dairy products and low-quality carbohydrates (simple sugars) that are most responsible.

11. Neosporin is a magical zit treatment.

Since the driving force behind acne is inflammation, a topical antibiotic, such as Neosporin, is not an effective means to eliminate acne.

12. Toothpaste can't irritate a pimple.

Toothpaste can actually be very irritating to the skin, causing redness and peeling when applied to a pimple.

13. Calamine can't dry a pimple.

It’s sulfur-based and drying! Calamine lotion soothes redness and reduces the outbreak of acne by absorbing the excess oil produced by over-stimulated sebaceous glands.

14. You should be open to using at-home products laying around your house for skin care.

Examples include rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and breaking open liquid gel pain relievers. The best solution is to use a product that’s actually designed for your skin and acne.

15. Egg whites shrink pores.

Egg whites might make your skin feel tighter just by drying and sitting on your skin, but they won’t do much else.

16. Coconut oil will make wrinkles disappear.

While it might be an effective moisturizer, it cannot relieve pre-existing age spots or wrinkles.

Oils 101

What’s the deal with oils? They’re the hot ingredient in so many beauty products, but what do they actually do? What’s the difference? How do you even pronounce them!? We’ve got the scoop for you!

Oils can be used on hair, skin, and nails, and can be mixed with a variety of hair and skin product to create a personalized cocktail with an extra boost of all-natural goodness.  Each oil contains its own unique balance of vitamins and nutrients, allowing you to customize your own blend that is suited for your specific needs.

OLIVE OIL – Not just for cooking, olive oil is rich in multi-tasking antioxidants, including Vitamins A & E, this oil hydrates and nourishes dry skin, hair and scalps.  Olive Oil is one of nature’s most hydrating oils, soothing and smoothing the driest skin or hair.

AVOCADO OIL – This is a nutrient-rich oil that contains a blend of concentrated fatty-acids and natural anti-oxidants that softens, soothes, and strengthens hair strands and provides intense moisture to thirsty skin.

ALMOND OIL – A multi-tasking oil containing Vitamins E & B, Sweet Almond Oil is known as an excellent sealant, and can penetrate the hair shaft, which helps strengthen weak or damaged hair, while minerals help soften, smooth, and control frizz.  Rapid absorption leaves skin moisturized without a sticky or oily feel, and won’t clog pores.

MACADAMIA OIL – Macadamia Oil is excellent for balancing out your skin’s natural oil production.  It is also known to seal the hair cuticle, which will eliminate frizz and promote a lustrous shine, leaving hair super-shiny and healthy-looking.

JOJOBA OIL – This is a versatile oil that provides essential moisture and softens and hydrates, leaving skin and hair smooth and lustrous.  Jojoba Oil is considered one of the best oils for balancing out your scalp’s natural oils, and can soothe and hydrate dry scalp and skin.  It adds softness and shine, while improving the hair’s elasticity.

ARGAN OIL – A favorite in the beauty world, Argan Oil is a rich, powerful oil that contains vitamins and essential fatty-acids.  Ideal for moisturizing, softening, and smoothing hair, Argan Oil naturally creates unparalleled shine and hydration.

MONOI OIL [Mah-noy]- Monoi oil is created by soaking Tahitian Gardenias in oil (usually coconut oil), which creates a wonderfully scented and powerful product. It’s perfect for strengthening hair from the inside out, as well as providing luminous shine.

COCONUT OIL – What does coconut oil NOT do? Its benefits are endless, making it very popular with natural devotees. It can be used on the skin to soften, smooth and nourish, and on hair to act as a natural barrier to protect against damage and keep hair healthy. Coconut oil also helps protect against damaging free radicals.
